Praga, 28 de março a 4 de abril

Regressaram motivados e com novas ideias na bagagem os dezasseis professores do Agrupamento de Escolas de Sever do Vouga (AESV) que realizaram o curso “Teaching through 21st century methodologies” (o ensino através de metodologias do século 21), no instituto ITC International, em Praga, entre 28 de março e 4 de abril. 

Esta formação decorreu no âmbito do projeto “Formação Docente” que o AESV se encontra a desenvolver ao abrigo do programa Erasmus+, um programa europeu que, entre outras valências, financia a formação docente no estrangeiro.

Durante os seis dias de formação foi possível aos professores das várias disciplinas experienciar métodos de aprendizagem que ativam a criatividade, o espírito crítico, a resolução de problemas, a tomada de decisões, a metacognição. Foram também debatidas novas formas de aumentar a frequência com que os encarregados de educação se deslocam à escola, propostas para facilitar a leitura, metodologias específicas para promover a aprendizagem dos alunos com Necessidades Educativas Especiais, estratégias de implementação do projeto CLIL (destinado a fomentar a aprendizagem de línguas estrangeiras de modo transversal). Os professores ficaram ainda a conhecer melhor o sistema educativo daquele país, tendo visitado inclusive as instalações de uma escola da República Checa para alunos entre os 6 e os 15 anos. 

Para além dos dezasseis participantes lusos, também se encontravam a realizar o mesmo curso quatro professores gregos e uma cipriota, daí que esta experiência tenha sido muito enriquecedora não só pelo desenvolvimento de competências práticas e de conhecimentos a nível do ensino, mas também a nível cultural.

Na sequência desta formação, os professores que participaram irão disseminar junto da comunidade educativa as ideias inovadoras, bem como os materiais que trouxeram, de forma a que os objetivos do projeto, mais concretamente a melhoria dos resultados escolares, sejam alcançados.

Teaching through 21st Century Methodologies

course Preparation

The course focuses on improving English language abilities of teachers and administrators and on using modern methodologies suitable for development of 21st century skills. Teachers of all subjects are welcome as they will not only get a chance to improve English in discussions and communication with other trainees as well as in the coursework but also get firsthand experience of teaching through modern methodologies. They might consider speaking English as advantageous for furthering their career or for teaching their chosen subject in English. That is why CLIL is part of one of the modules.

Pre-departure:

Trainees will receive a questionnaire, which will provide information on their teaching background, qualifications, and previous experience with e-learning. They will prepare a presentation about system of education in their country.

Methodology

This course is structured into 12 different training modules, each of which covers a different aspect of 21st century methodology (way of thinking, ways of working, tools for working, skills for living in the world). Coursework will contain mostly practical, hands-on activities in addition to inspiring discussions on how to best orient teaching styles to serve a 21st century student body. Attention will also be paid to work with special needs children and their inclusion. Good practices of work with talented and gifted students (e.g. CLIL) as well as with children with various disorders will be presented and discussed.

The methodological approach:

Trainees will be given the theoretical information that they need to effectively create and implement lessons appropriate for 21st century learning styles. Much of the information presented will be demonstrated with a practical, hands-on approach that will engage the attendees and give them an idea what it is like to participate in collaborative and creative activities. Each module will attempt to incorporate the existing knowledge and experience of the trainees in an effort to create a helpful learning environment. In addition, as part of an individual project each trainee will produce several of their own lesson materials according to their backgrounds and needs. The instructor will present information, guide the trainees through the practical components, and offer feedback and suggestions.

Follow-up

Participants will complete a workbook either for their personal reference or related tasks and lesson plans appropriate to their classroom/students’ requirements which they can update on their return home. A mailing list of participants will be created in order to exchange ideas/experiences.
